The trip

Okily Dokily

In October for my 21st I'm going on a trip to Thailand, Cambodia and Laos for 6 weeks (with a stopover in Singapore).

No real idea and where I will be when, or what I'll do where but I want to see Angkor Wat, Luang Prabang, visit a friend in Phnom Penh and bum on a beach. Apart from that I'll be oging with the flow and I can't wait!

Will be away for a 6 weeks, and then back to work. I was originally going to resign and find a job somewhere else when I get back but decided (more like persuaded!) against that. So my work have given me 3 weeks leave without pay, and I'll have a job when I get back to pay for the bills.

So far I've booked my international tix (not my domestic ones, hoping a sale will come up soon), my insurance, got my passport and I'm starting to sort out my visas. Oh, and saving money like mad!

If you have any tips or fantastic places to see/go to, please leave a comment!

Rant...

Why is it that people can't clean up after themselves?

It's a tiny kitchen, the sink is right next to the main bench area, the bin is under the window but why to people keep leaving used spoons and teabags on the bench? Is it really that hard to run a cloth over the bench when you spill coffee or sugar?

Grrrrr!!

Am I good or what?

Just gone 9am and I've already spent $250 :)

Bought my travel insurance this morning and bought a couple of books (including SEA guidebook!). Woo hoo! It's getting closer! (And I Know I said I'd do a post about the trip yesterday but I forgot, it will be done today)

Back to work :(

Wednesday 27th June 2005

4 years ago today my father died.

He died from cancer which had spread through his body, but had originated in his throat as a result of smoking for 39 years.

For the last 7 days of his life he was in a coma. The day before he died we spent the day watching old movies we had watched together hundreds of time before together. He died early the following morning.

Where ever you have ended up Dad, know that I love you.

Back at work for Wednesday

Not feeling all that better today, but I can talk properly (well, better than yesterday).

Work didn't change during my one day off - you know the saying same shit different day.

I mentioned yesterday that 2 of our work fish died. So my workmates changed the water, and bough 2 new fish who have been called Rocky and Rambo. Goofy who was looking sick yesterday had a lovely soak overnight in Evian water and look better than ever. Who would have thought!!

Had an early lunch today (have been doing that a lot recently). Went to the pst office to sort out some money orders for my trip in October, then onto the travel agent to fix up my flights. A different agent had quoted me the wrong price for my Laos visa so I got the wrong money order. Grrrrr. Will sort that out tomorrow don't want to think of it now. This trip will make a great story when I'm 80 because NOTHING is going smootly at all!

I headed to Spotlight to get some sample fabric for my roman blind I'm making. They have a sale for VIPs and the fabric I like is $7.95 a metre instead of $14.95! Woohoo! I love saving money :)

On the way back to work I passed a small leather shop that I don't usually go into, but they had a sale bin out the front with the most gorgeous red leather purse. $15 It is 100% perfect! Am so happy with it, now I just want to go shopping, which is bad. Slight problem of now having no money!

Am off to tennis tonight if the rain holds out. I'm loving the lessons at the moment. Have been playing since October last year and it's a real blast. The people in my class are great and a couple of the girls from my class last term now play social tennis on Sunday mornings. It's usually 2 hours and we bring along food and play and chat. I'm the youngest by about 15 years and I love it!

A wet and soggy Tuesday

It's windy and raining outside, a perfect day for a sick day. My tonsilitis which has been creeping up on me since Saturday has hit full strength today. I'm ok, but I have to remember NOT to swallow! Feels like someone is running a machete through my throat!

When I rang work to tell them I wasn't coming in, they told me that 2 more of our fish died, including the oldest one Garfield. He was a huge fantail, when we got him he was the size of a thumbnail and he grew fast! The other was Google, a black moore with googly eyes (obvious how he got his name!) . We still have Goofy left. I'll clean out the tank again when I'm back tomorrow and let it settle. Give it a week or 2 and we'll another couple of fish.

So I'm off to do housework that I have been putting off for ages. I have to clear the kitchen table (my dumping ground!), iron and fold the washing, vacuum, change the sheets, and get the spare room rady for painting.

I hate Monday mornings

So the weekend is over and that means back to work. Bleurgh.

Not a good start to the week either. Our fish at work are dying, after having one die on Friday. We've put some fungal treatment in there, but they just look terrible. It's so hard not being able to do something for them, poor little buggers. Now we just wait and see what happens.

My supervisor isn't here until Wednesday, so I've set myself the goal of trying to get through as much work as I can - but that's obviously not happening! I've done about 30 mins work since I've been here (3 hours). Someone has to pull their finger out!

A lazy sunday

Spent this morning recovering from last night. The boyfriend and I went out with some friends to our local for a couple of drinks and some games of pool.

Needless to say, I drank too much and lost all my games of pool! Was good fun though, specially meeting some new people that I had heard so much about, but ever yet met.

Did the shopping, then home for lunch and onto the couch to watch the V8's. Can't even tell you who won because I feel asleep. Whoops!

I love GUD

Wow! As I mentioned I went and saw Love GUD last night with a friend.

For those of you who don't know, GUD is Paul McDermott's (from the Doug Anthony All Stars, and Good News Week/end) lastest musical comedy. It's very brash, crude, hilarious and just bloody brilliant. Also a lot of swearing and playing with the audience. They pick on each other as well, it's just hilarious.

Q: What are you if you study the social and emotional effects of AC/DC?
A: An AccaDaccaDemic

If you get the chance to see GUD live, do it. Don't even hesitate. However, if swearing offends you, and you also find jokes about war, peadophilia, etc offensive, it might not be for you.

Random afternoon thoughts

Is it bad to paint your nails at work while you're being paid to do nothing anyway?

No, I didn't think so! They look gorgeous now, I used L'Oreal Hasty, it's a gorgeous bright pink.

It's such a beautiful day here today, for a change! It's 16C, sunny, but there's still a slight chill in the air - just the way I like it :) Rain is forecast for the weekend, so I forecast me curled up in front of the fire with a book (The Pact, Jodi Picoult).

I'm going to see tonight GUD with a great friend who I haven't seen for a couple of months. She's one of those friends that you could not see them for years, but the conversation picks up at the same spot you left off! I'm really looking forward to it, so will post an update about it tomorrow.

...

So, this is my first post. Thought I would jump onto the blog bandwagon, might give me something to do while I'm meant to be working!
